USEFUL INFORMATION

Venue

Het Pand, a former Dominican monastery, is located in the historical centre of the city, on the banks of the river "Leie".
The oldest parts of this impressive building date from the 13th century. During five centuries it was extended and refashioned in different styles. Since its rehabilitation and restoration, finished in 1991, "Het Pand" has been offering a wide range of possibilities for the organisation of scientific congresses and cultural events.

"Het Pand" houses some valuable collections, such as the rich ethnographical and archaeological collections of the university, the Museum for the History of Medicine, full-size photographs of paintings of Brueghel and Early Flemish Masters, and an interesting collection of stained glass.

Travel

Travel to Ghent for most of you will be most convenient by plane via Brussels airport.

There is a train connection from the airport to the train station Gent Sint Pieters, that takes approximately 1hr20' (sometimes you have to change trains in Brussels, sometimes you can take a direct train to Ghent, but except for some very early or very late stop trains you have 2 or 3 connections per hour that take only just over 1hr).

Coming from France taking a TGV to Brussels Midi station, and then a train to Ghent (one half hour) could be a good alternative.

From some places there are also cheap flights to Brussels South Charleroi airport, but you should then take into account that the travel from Charleroi to Ghent will be a lot longer and more complicated. If you are interested in these alternatives, please contact René Boel who can provide you with good suggestions for the connections to Ghent.

Hotel

Accomodation should be booked quickly, especially if you plan to stay over the weekend.

You can find a list of most hotels in Ghent at the web site of the touristic service of the city of Ghent.
